The Answers:

Can all font types be used? [Back]

The software supports True Type fonts. You can recognise these by the TTF suffix.

How do I insert text? [Back]

You can create a new text field by clicking the "New text" symbol in the "Text" toolbox in the object toolbar or via the context menu (right mouse button in the work area).

You drag the new text field to the desired position on the current page with your mouse.

You can then position it even more precisely or resize it.

The text field initially has the standard text "- Your Text -".

As long as you have not inserted your own text or the text field is empty, it will not be visible in the finished photo product, even though the standard text "- Your text -" can be seen in the editor.

How do I remove text? [Back]

You delete the active text field either by selecting the text frame and clicking the "Delete" symbol in the "Edit" toolbox in the toolbar or by pressing the "Del" key on your keyboard.

You have to do that twice in succession.

On the first occasion the fully selected text will be deleted, and on the second occasion the text field.

Text is entered and edited essentially in exactly the same way as you are accustomed to in your word processing program.

What does the warning triangle in the text field mean? [Back]

A red warning triangle in a text field is a visual indication that the entered text is too large for the text field and is overflowing the text field.

Select a smaller font size for your text or increase its selected text field until the warning triangle disappears.

Resize the text field evenly using the corner handles, and adjust the width and/or height with the side handled.

The text itself will not be increased or reduced in size when resizing.

You can do that with the text properties and format the font size.

Which fonts can I use? [Back]

The tool selection of the text tools offers you various tools to format your texts. (e.g. including the font)

The program uses the fonts installed on your computer, but only takes account of TrueType fonts (*.ttf).

The fonts are listed by their name and in the respective font.

You can copy texts from a different source (Word file, Internet site, etc.) onto the clipboard of the operating system and paste them into the text field.

Some text formatting will be included and sometimes the source text (HTML commands) from an Internet site.

These must then be adjusted or deleted.

Can I use my own fonts? [Back]

New fonts in the TrueType format (*.ttf) can be installed additionally in the operating system.

However, you must then restart the program so that the newly installed font also appears in the font list.

Please note:

When you open a saved project on another computer, the fonts used in the project must also be installed on the other computer.

Otherwise they will be replaced by a standard font (usually Arial).

What text formatting can I use? [Back]

In the toolbar the following text commands are available to you as symbols:

"New text" symbol

Produces a text field in a layout which you can fill and design with your own texts.

The new text field can now be dragged freely over the page.

The text field always has the standard text "- Your text -" at the beginning.

"Font" selection field

A list in the toolbar showing the fonts installed on your computer.

The fonts are listed by their name and in the respective font.

Symbols

"Bold"

"Italics"

"Underlined"

For the font type (bold, italic) and the underlining of the selected text

"Set text colour" symbol

To set the colour of the selected text.

"Set background colour of text field" symbol

Colours the entire background of the text field in a selected colour.

Font size selection field

A list in the toolbar showing the available font sizes.

You can also enter any font size numerically in the field.

In the drop-down area:

Symbols:

- "align left"

- "align right"

- "centre text"

- "justified"

These are the paragraph formats to align the text within the text field.

They affect the whole of the selected text field.

Symbol: "Change multiple text fields"

A "text settings" dialogue box opens.

Here you can set all available properties of a text field, e.g. font type and colours, but also the distance between the text and the text frame (indentation) and coloured letter contours, to which you would otherwise have no access.

To do so, click the checkbox in front of the text property you wish to change.

Attention:

These settings affect all areas of a text field.

That means if you change the font size and have formatted a paragraph in one or more text fields with a larger font as a caption, this formatting will be overwritten.

You can apply the changes in the text settings only to the currently selected text field (or the selected text fields), or to all texts in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK.

Formatting changes in text

Formatting changes only affect new text to be written to the right of the text cursor or currently selected text parts.

Therefore, if you wish to format texts afterwards, you must first select the text area which is to be formatted.

You select text areas by holding down the left mouse button and moving over your selection or by placing your text cursor at the beginning of the text to be formatted and then, while holding down the shift key, clicking at the end of the text to be formatted.

You can select an individual whole word by double-clicking it.

You select the entire content of a text field with the key combination "Ctrl" + "a".

Then click the formatting command.

How large should text be in order to be easily legible? [Back]

Easily legible text always depends on the size, font, colour and contrast against the background.

To make sure your text is easily legible in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK, we recommend a font size of 14 or over.

That naturally always depends on whether you wish to use text for description or design.

A tip:

Text is often difficult to read against a "busy" background (your own photo with a lot of detail).

It may help to select a somewhat "bolder" font and to apply a thin coloured letter contour in a contrasting colour by means of the "Change multiple text fields" menu item.

How do I write on the spine of the book? [Back]

On the spine of the book there is a text field in which a book title can be entered, preferably the same title as on the front.

Spine printing is only possible with hard and soft covers.

Due to the limited space, the choice of available font sizes is automatically limited.

Is it possible to design texts with a coloured frame? [Back]

No, that is not possible. - But it is possible to colour the text field.

The button for full colour is in the text editing tools.

This function colours the entire background of the text field in a chosen colour.

How do I change all text in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK at once? [Back]

In the text editing tools there is a small black triangle to "pull down" further commands.

Here you will find the "Change multiple text fields" button

A "text settings" dialogue box opens.

Here you can set all available properties of a text field, e.g. font type and colours, but also the distance between the text and the text frame (indentation) and coloured letter contours, to which you would otherwise have no access.

To do so, click the checkbox in front of the text property you wish to change.

Attention:

These settings affect all areas of a text field.

That means if you change the font size and have formatted a paragraph in one or more text fields with a larger font as a caption, this formatting will be overwritten.

You can apply the changes in the text settings only to the selected text field (or the selected text fields), or to all texts in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK.

Can I insert text from Word? [Back]

Text from Word can be inserted using the copy-and-paste function of the clipboard in the the operating system into a text field in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK.

Select the text in Word (or other word processing program) and copy the text to a previously inserted text field on the photo book page.

You may have to format the inserted text, setting the font, size, colour, etc. by means of the symbol buttons.

How do I load text from the Internet? [Back]

Sometimes, to illustrate the page, you could use additional photos or textual information on places, areas or countries.

The "Load photos and text from the Internet" function can be used for that purpose.

With this command a dialogue box opens to search for pictures in "locr" and to search for information in "Wikipedia GeoNames"

Searching texts in "Wikipedia GeoNames"

For that purpose the option "Wikipedia GeoNames" must be selected (click the radio button in front of "Wikipedia GeoNames").

Enter an appropriate search term (as with Google) and click "Search".

The text/articles found for your search term are displayed to you with a short text extract.

Clicking "go to article" opens the corresponding Wikipedia page in your web browser.

From there you can select desired text passages, copy them and paste them in a text field of the DOMO Fotolumea mea editor.

Inserting other texts from the Internet

You you can copy texts from any page in your web browser.

Select the required text passage and copy it into the button of your operating system. This text can then be inserted in any text field in the DOMO Fotolumea mea editor.

If you want to make your PHOTOBOOK accessible to a wider public or even earn money with it, make sure you can actually use the text freely and do not infringe copyright.

Can I arrange my text behind photos? [Back]

Text is always in the foreground and cannot be arranged behind photos.

Can I use Word Art? [Back]

Unfortunately it is not possible to use Word Art. But you can insert a "Word Art" (MS Office) or "font work" (OpenOffice / LibreOffice) text box into the clipboard on the workspace of the software.

Is a spellchecker available? [Back]

You can switch automatic spellchecking on or off in the options.

If spellchecking is switched on any possibly misspelt words are underlined in red in the text. The red underlining is not printed.

Right-clicking the underlined word opens a context menu with a list of spelling suggestions. Clicking a suggestion inserts it in the text in place of the word underlined in red.

If the word has been spelt correctly and is nevertheless marked as a spelling error, it may be that the word is not in the spellchecker dictionary.

You can either add it to the dictionary using the context menu or ignore it, i.e. it will no longer be marked as a spelling error in future.

Is it possible to move text? [Back]

The text field to be moved must be selected (active) and the mouse cursor must be over the editing frame.

The mouse cursor then changes into a cross with arrowheads.

Then hold down the left mouse button and move the text field to the position where you want your text to appear or move it gradually using the arrow keys on the keyboard.

Is it possible to pre-set a font? [Back]

It is not possible to pre-set a specific font.

The software offers you the possibility of formatting a selected text or all texts in the CEWE PHOTOBOOK. ("Change multiple texts" symbol button)

But the last font settings used will remain active until others are selected.

The current font setting will always be saved when quitting the software and will be available again when the software is restarted.

How do I write vertically? [Back]

If you want the letters to be placed vertically one beneath the other, you must press the enter key (return) after entering each letter.

On the other hand you want the text to flow from bottom to top or from top to bottom, the text field must be turned 90 degrees.

Can text be made transparent? [Back]

Not in the DOMO Fotolumea mea software itself, but indirectly using a picture editing program that supports text or layer transparencies.

Write the desired text (with or with a transparent background) in the picture editing program.

In that program, assign a transparency to the text or reduce the opacity of the text layer.

Save the text as a picture in PNG format and insert this picture like a photo into the DOMO Fotolumea mea software.

Text as a partly transparent PNG can even cast a shadow with precise contours. ("Frame and shading" menu item)
